Award-Winning 11 SKIES Features Giant Green Façade
At the gateway to Asia, Hong Kong’s skyline has turned a little greener. 11 SKIES — the city’s largest retail and commercial complex — now features a massive 4,400 m² SemperGreenwall, wrapping the building in lush vegetation. A living icon that redefines sustainable urban design in the heart of SkyCity.

Extends facade life span
A living wall shields your facade from sun, rain, wind and temperature changes, extending its lifespan.
A new urban icon takes root
Rising beside Hong Kong International Airport, 11 SKIES is more than a commercial hub, it’s a symbol of a greener urban future. Developed by New World Development and operated by K11 Group, this vast mixed-use destination combines over 800 retail outlets with entertainment, wellness, and financial services. Lead8 Architects envisioned a building that connects innovation, culture, and nature, culminating in one of the largest living walls ever constructed in Asia.
The SemperGreenwall wraps the façade in over 4,400 m² of dense, thriving vegetation. Installed by our partner Bluet Garden Ltd., the living wall began in October 2020 and took nearly two years to complete. It was a technical and logistical masterpiece, an enormous green structure designed to withstand Hong Kong’s tropical climate and typhoon winds while staying lush year-round.
Project Brought to Life By
A horticultural masterpiece
Bluet Garden’s horticulturists selected a rich palette of tropical and subtropical plant species, chosen for both resilience and beauty. The façade faces multiple directions, so two distinct plant mixes were developed to ensure continuous growth in both sunny and shaded areas. The result is a dynamic green surface that changes subtly with light, season and weather, breathing life into the structure.
Sustainable design from the roots up
At the core of the wall lies the SemperGreenwall Flexipanel, an innovation that allows roots to grow freely across the vertical surface instead of remaining confined in pots. This promotes healthier plants and ensures the façade stays green with minimal maintenance. The irrigation system provides optimal water and nutrients year-round, conserving resources while keeping every leaf vibrant.
Greening the gateway to Asia
As the first thing travellers see when they land at Chek Lap Kok Airport, the living wall at 11 SKIES serves as a green ambassador for Hong Kong’s sustainability ambitions. It cools the air, filters pollutants, and enhances biodiversity in a dense urban area. With its scale, design excellence, and environmental impact, the project stands as a model for future megacities, proving that even at the busiest crossroads of the world, nature can reclaim its place.
11 SKIES shows how architecture and nature can thrive together, even in one of the world’s busiest cities.
