Winery Combines Biodynamic Wine, Green Roofs, and Solar

At Weingut Seyberth in Siefersheim, sustainability and nature go hand in hand. The new wooden lodges feature sloping roofs with Sempergreen Sedum-mix blankets Type T and solar panels, creating a harmonious blend of ecology, comfort and renewable energy in the Rheinhessen landscape.

Multifunctional surface

Every part of the roof contributes. Rainwater is buffered and nature is given room to grow.

Climate adaptive design

The roof stores water during heavy rainfall and helps cool the surroundings during summer heat.

Biodiversity in the built environment

A diverse planting plan attracts pollinators, birds and native insects. This turns the roof into a thriving ecosystem.

Eco-friendly lodges in harmony with nature

Nestled in the Rheinhessische Schweiz region, the Seyberth Winery produces Demeter-certified wines that reflect deep respect for the soil and surrounding ecosystem. When expanding their guest facilities, the family opted for Sempergreen Pitchedgreen Roofs to mirror that same philosophy in architecture. The gently sloping roofs of the chalets are not just beautiful to look at, they regulate temperature, retain rainwater, and create a home for pollinators.

In combination with the photovoltaic panels, they form a model of climate-smart design where renewable energy and living vegetation work hand in hand.

Higher yield from solar panels combined with a green roof

By pairing solar panels with vegetation, the chalets achieve higher energy yields and improved insulation. The Sedum plants keep rooftop temperatures several degrees cooler, allowing the PV panels to operate more efficiently. It’s a win-win for both sustainability and comfort, reducing heat, conserving energy, and generating clean power from the same surface.

From above, the roofs blend seamlessly into the rolling vineyards, echoing the region’s gentle slopes. The vibrant Sedum changes colour through the seasons, from soft reds in winter to bursts of white, pink, and yellow in summer, reflecting the rhythms of nature that guide the Seyberth family’s winemaking philosophy. Each roof tells a story of respect for the land and the craft that sustains it.

The roof connects craftsmanship with ecology, just like our wines.
