8,400m² Green Roof Buffers Olympic-Sized Rainfall

In Champniers, the second phase of the ‘ZAC des Montagnes Ouest’ retail park adds 10 new commercial units and 492 parking spaces. Its 8,400 m² roof was completed in just eight days with a lightweight, water-buffering green roof system.

The ‘ZAC des Montagnes Ouest’ retail park in Champniers has been expanded with a second business park. Phase 2 consists of the new construction of 10 commercial units and 492 parking places. The huge roof area of 8,400 m² was provided with a huge water buffering green roof by 7 installers in just 8 days. For this roof construction, a lightweight water buffering green roof system with Sempergreen Sedum mix blankets has been chosen, a structure that is extremely suitable for commercial buildings.

Lightweight green roof buffers two Olympic swimming pools of rainwater

The roof of these business premises is equipped with an Urbanscape green roof system in combination with Sedum blankets from Sempergreen. This innovative lightweight green roof system has a high water retention capacity. Completely water-saturated, this green roof system only weighs 65 kg / m². The Sedum roof buffers 4,800 m² of rainwater on an annual basis, which is the equivalent to almost two Olympic swimming pools. Such a high absorption will make a major contribution to water buffering in the local environment. In addition, the green roof has an important impact on cooling the building during the summer months, as well as reducing the heat island effect in this urbanized area. This makes this green roof system the ideal lightweight solution for every type of roof.
