Sustainability was at the heart of the project, and the headquarters has achieved LEED Platinum certification. Two acres of Sedum roofs, wetlands restoration, a retention pond, smart lighting and shading systems, and bird-safe façades all contribute to resilience and ecological value. Solar panels generate 30% of the campus’s electricity, while the remainder comes from green power purchases, making the building carbon neutral for electricity. Together, these measures cut the energy use intensity to nearly 60% below the AIA benchmark for similar office buildings.

Solar meets green roof

On the LG campus, the green roofs are not just aesthetic or ecological features, they actively support the solar panels placed alongside them. Sedum vegetation naturally cools the roof surface, preventing panels from overheating and boosting their efficiency. The plants also reduce glare and reflect diffused light onto the panels, ensuring more stable energy production throughout the day. Together, the solar modules and green roof form a smart partnership that maximises output while enhancing climate resilience.

Instantly green, built to last

By using pre-grown Sedum blankets from the Sempergreen Green Roof system, the LG roofs were green from day one. Each blanket arrives with at least 95% plant coverage, creating an immediate visual impact and eliminating the bare, vulnerable phase common with traditional plug planting. Because the mats are dense and rooted in a stable growing medium, they stay firmly in place, even during storms. At the same time, the vegetation and substrate capture and store rainwater, slowing runoff and easing pressure on the site’s stormwater system.

Inside, daylight floods the narrow office wings, ensuring every workstation has a view of nature. The green roofs outside the windows act as calming horizons, while trails, Korean gardens, and terraces invite employees outdoors.
